For the past couple of weeks, I've been working on a few decorating projects for my house.
The first (pictured above) is a curtain for my dining room window. I'm not much of a seamstress, but I managed to sew this curtain, lining and all! I bought the fabric as a remnant, so the whole thing cost me less than $40.00.
The second are pillows for my sofa.... I have a L O N G history with this fabric. I fell completely in love with it a year or so ago when it came into my office. It is 100% silk, and sells for $120.00 per yard--and that is WITH the designer discount! I wanted (so very badly) to make draperies out of it, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend $500 for one panel.... So, I ordered two samples from the fabric rep (cost: FREE). They were exactly big enough for a pillow. I sewed brown silk on the back, and love LOVE them!
The third is the rug you see under my coffee table. You can't really tell from the picture, but its green-ish and brown. It is made out of carpet tiles that I had ordered for a project at work. It didn't work out for the project, but I took it home and it looks great in my house! I called my rep and told him that I wanted to order 12 tiles.... he sent them as "samples" for, you guessed it, FREE. What's even better is that the samples come with the heavy-duty backing, which does not allow moisture or stains to stay on the carpet. So when Sophie potty's on the new rug, we can simply wipe it up.
