I'm not that hip on traditional "traditions" because a lot of the time I feel like families do things just because "it's tradition." But last night after church, I was thinking of some of the traditions that I have carried from my childhood into my own home. One of them is Frozen Pizza. Growing up, every sunday night after church my family ate frozen pizza at the coffee table. It is a tradition of sorts that Trey and I both love because we love frozen pizza, and we love the thought of not having to cook. So last night as I was eating my frozen pizza at the coffee table, I tried to think of new traditions that I'd like to begin our marriage with.
Traditions to start this year:
1. Pick out and cut our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving, and take our picture next to our Christmas tree every year.
2. Have a date night at home on the 28th of each month. Just so we'll have some real time together that we can look forward to.
3. Make lists of things that we are thankful for on Thanksgiving (my favorite holiday, second only to Easter).
4. Carve a pumpkin for Halloween. This is something that I do with my cousins each year. They have a blast, and I do too.
5. Dye Easter Eggs on Good Friday (this is one that we started at 1:00 AM this year---we were tired, but I was determined)
6. Continue to eat Frozen Pizza on sunday night after church.
What are some of your favorite traditions?

it's funny that you blogged about this because i was just thinking about it friday night. with the start of our 'family' i want my kids to have nontraditional traditon memories as well. i have tons of ideas of what i want them to be, and most ideas stem around holidays. however, it seem the traditions i think of in my family were just day to day 'routines' that i catch myself doing as an adult as well.
I don't have a lot of "sweet" traditions... I only remember things like mowing the lawn once a week and washing the dishes every hour
RJ- What about going out to eat at your fav. restaurant (Denneys), or keeping your fishing pole in your mom's car so you could "fish" in a mud puddle?
Ash-One tradition my mom started for us when we were born is buying us a Christmas Ornament each year. When we got older, we got to pick it out. Now, I have a box full of ornaments to hang on my own tree. You could do that for Baby Scott
My first memory of this was in the first grade and we've done it ever since. Every fall we have the Rickett's Annual Bonfire at my parents' house and we roast hotdogs & make s'mores. Nothing fancy, but we certainly make a point to do it every year! Lots of fun. Also, at Christmas, instead of just reading the birth of Jesus, we acted it out as my Dad read it from Luke & Matthew. It was sentimental and reverent, but light hearted enough that we used the cats and dogs as sheep. Last year my baby nephew got to be Baby Jesus and this year my baby niece will get to do the same. It's very meaningful and fun, but it brings everything back to the true meaning of season.
Also - I got that great fabric on my porch swing from a little fabric shop in Benton, but I recently saw it in the Hancock's on Cantrell. It's supposed to be "outdoor" fabric, so we'll see if it's as sturdy as it is cute! :)
A tradition that we have just recently talked about starting is having a movie night with Bailey once a week. She loves to watch cartoons and loves it even more when mom or dad join her. One night she was laying on our bed watching cartoons and Austin and I joined her. She loved it. We want to take her to the video store to pick out a movie, eat popcorn and snuggle on the couch just hanging out with our girl. Their only little once! Alesha
Oh, I love the traditions! I am all about coming up with traditions! I just wish my husband didn't laugh at me every time I came up with something! And yes, try the ear plugs! Ammmmmmazing!!!!!!!!!

What a great post! I too love creating traditions for my own family!
My family doesn't have a whole lot of special traditions, but the two that come to mind are both Christmas related. Every Christmas Eve since we were born my Dad reads "The Night Before Christmas" to my sister and I. We still do it to this day.
The other one we started about 5 years ago. I mentioned to my mom that when I had kids, I was going to give them brand new Christmas PJs on Christmas Eve so they would have cute PJs for Christmas morning. That Christmas my mom surprised my me and my sister with our very own Christmas PJs and now its a yearly tradition!
Oh yeah, and one other is to roll down the windows when driving into Destin over the Destin Bridge and take in the smell of the salty sea air!
Love the Blog. Peyton and I are both big on non-traditional "traditions." We LOVE and I do mean LOVE Christmas. We put our Christmas tree up on Oct 31st. and it does not come down until the 1 week of the year.(for the last 6 years) We play christmas music all the time.
I used to make SUnday breakfeast now its Saturday. Same concept. And we have breakfeast in bed. One of my favorite times of the week.
........
My sister and I have several but the sweetest, I think, is every time we see each other we get each other "happies." Always something small. But normally something that we both have been wanting.
